Feb 24, 2012Emissions on Biogas Plants – a Question of Periodic MonitoringIf you project the results of a reasonable amount of thermografic measurements with methane-detecting cameras onto the more than 7000 existing biogas plants in Germany you would accept 6000 plants to display leakages. This is the outcome of gascam-measurements conducted by Eviva in the last years: just one out of seven plants did not display any leakages, be it on plants running for years or on brand new ones which were examined prior to the passing of risk.Standard measurements ore examinations are generally unsufficient to identify the great variety of possible leakages. Therefore intelligent camera systems, like the GasCam system of Esders enterprise, can be very efficient. Besides the risk of explosions and climate-relevant methane emissions, the economic losses caused by additional feeding of substancies and lost power and heat revenues may quickly result to several thousand Euros. Eviva’s general manager Frank Schillig spoke about all this at the BiogasWorld 2012 in Berlin. Te audience puzzled why the authorities have not yet taken up this issue… |
